I do not wish to go into great detail about my life before I became a Christian, but one thing is certain: I was lost and bound for destruction without God. My life was filled with the proverbial “wine, women, and song,” yet I carried an emptiness that grew into a hunger for something more. After much hesitation and wrestling with my faith, I finally surrendered my life to Christ. I cannot describe the joy, peace, and purpose that I have now found in Him.
The first edition of this book was written 20 years ago, inspired by the belief that:
•Humanity has a deep hunger for God, even if it isn’t always recognized.
•Millions of people remain unsure of their relationship with God due to a lack of understanding. As the Word of God says in Hosea 4:6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
•Christianity is not about achieving a standard or following a philosophy; it is about a personal relationship with God, made possible through Jesus Christ.
•New believers often struggle with doubt and questions about their salvation and their walk with God.
At the start of 2024, I set a goal to write a second edition of the book and to translate it into Afrikaans. However, life took an unexpected turn: I suffered two heart attacks and three strokes in quick succession in August and September 2024. While these events were challenging, they deepened my understanding of faith and reinforced my passion for sharing the Good News.
Through this journey, I have seen God’s incredible faithfulness and mercy. My health crisis reminded me of the fragility of life and the importance of maintaining not only physical health but, more importantly, a healthy and vibrant relationship with the Lord.
This second edition reflects both the timeless truths of the Gospel and the lessons learned through my journey. It is my prayer that this book will meet the needs of those seeking God, whether they are unsure about their faith, new to Christianity, or simply looking for encouragement.
May you find in these pages the hope, peace, and freedom that come from a life surrendered to Christ.
